Wolfgang Fischer (born June 18, 1932 in Oelsnitz / Vogtl. ) Is a former German officer . He was major general and head of the military district command in Halle of the National People's Army (NVA) of the GDR .

Life

Fischer, son of a draftsman, worked as a freight forwarder after attending primary school from 1946. From 1948 to 1951 he completed an apprenticeship as a forwarding agent. On July 10, 1951, he joined the German People's Police and was a guard, clerk and, most recently, chief sergeant in the Berlin-Rummelsburg VP readiness. From 1953 to 1954 he was an officer student at the officers school in Erfurt and then until 1955 a platoon leader in the Drögeheide command of the barracked people's police (KVP). In 1955 he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). 1955/56 he acted as an officer for operational work in the staff of the CIP office in Prenzlau .

From 1956 a member of the NVA, he was initially an officer auditor in Dresden and studied from 1956 to 1960 at a military academy in the USSR. In 1960/61 he served as chief of staff of reconnaissance battalion 8 and from 1961 to 1964 as senior officer and head of the sub-department for operational and tactical training in the command of military district V in Neubrandenburg . This was followed by the service as senior officer in the operational administration of the military district V until 1969. In 1969 he went to Moscow as senior officer to the staff of the United Armed Forces of the Warsaw Treaty and studied there from 1973 to 1975 at the General Staff Academy of the USSR .

After his return to the GDR, he was employed as a senior officer in the operational administration of the Ministry of National Defense in 1975/76 . From 1976 to 1980 he was Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the 11th Mot.-Rifle Division in Halle (Saale) and in 1980/81 he was Deputy Chief of Staff for Organization in the Command of Military District III in Leipzig . His last position was from February 1, 1982 to 1990, as the successor to Franz Rös, head of the military district command (WBK) Halle of the NVA. From February 1984 to November 1989 he was a member of the SED district leadership in Halle. On February 21, 1986 he was appointed major general by Erich Honecker and discharged from military service on September 30, 1990 as part of the liquidation of the NVA.
