Wolfgang Lipp researched the different routes of the St. James Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela , which can be determined in southern Germany . To this end, he drew on knowledge of the history of art , but also research on ancient Roman and medieval routes. Lipp was just as interested in the spiritual dimension of pilgrimage . He also interpreted the diverse art history of the Ulm Minster theologically in an independent way . This was reflected in various publications on the building history of the cathedral and on the interpretation of individual architectural features of the largest Protestant sacred building.
