Wolfgang Panzer (geographer)

Wolfgang Gustav Hermann Panzer (born June 16, 1896 in Munich , † July 16, 1983 in Mainz ) was a German geographer .

Life

The son of Friedrich Panzer studied from 1915 to 1921 at the universities of Frankfurt am Main , Heidelberg and Freiburg im Breisgau . After receiving his doctorate in 1922 at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau and his habilitation in 1925 at the University of Gießen , he was full professor at the University of Heidelberg from 1935 to 1945 . As a consultant in the Reich Ministry of Education, Panzer was responsible for ensuring that all geography appointments were adhered to the line and subordinated his university activities in Heidelberg to the supposed claims of the NSDAP , while his scientific work remained manageable. From 1952 to 1964 he was professor of geography in Mainz .
