Wolfgang Sauer (born January 9, 1948 in Forchheim near Bamberg ) is a German Catholic clergyman and was the spiritual director of the Catholic School of Journalism in Munich .

Live and act

Wolfgang Sauer was born as the son of federal judge Fritz Sauer and Ingeborg Sauer (née Fuß) in Forchheim near Bamberg in 1948 and grew up in Karlsruhe from 1950 . He attended the humanistic Ludwig-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Rastatt , where he passed his Abitur in 1966 and received the Scheffel Prize as the best German Abitur graduate .

The scholarship holder of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes entered the Theological Konvikt Collegium Borromaeum in Freiburg after completing school and was ordained a priest in May 1973 after studying theology in Freiburg and Lyon . His subsequent chaplaincy he spent on the one hand in St. Bonifaz in Karlsruhe and on the other in St. Josef in Mannheim.

In 1976 he returned to Freiburg and worked as a tutor and spiritual teacher at the Collegium Borromaeum until 1985 . He then spent seven years in Heidelberg as a university chaplain in the Catholic student community and at the University of Heidelberg . He stayed there until 1992 when he was appointed to the Archbishopric of Freiburg as a consultant for world church affairs and pastoral care for missions in other mother tongues.

In 1993 he was appointed resident cathedral chapter of the Freiburg Metropolitan Chapter and in 1995 he was appointed "Papal Chaplain" ( Monsignor ). As head of the Universal Church Department, he was responsible for the partnership between the Archdiocese of Freiburg and Peru and for the Adveniat sponsorship campaign. He was also the mission director of the Archdiocese of Freiburg and a member of various committees and administrative boards of Catholic aid organizations such as missio , Misereor and Renovabis .

On May 1, 2001, he was appointed head of the public relations department. Until September 2011 he was a member of the Broadcasting Council of Südwestrundfunk (SWR) as well as of the church policy committee of the Archdiocese of Freiburg. In December 2003 he was appointed dean of the cathedral (deputy chairman of the metropolitan chapter).

From January 2008 he took over the management of Department VII (“Central Services”) in the Archbishop's Ordinariate, continuing his role as World Church Officer for the Archdiocese. From February 2008 to 2011 he was chairman of the television committee of SWR.

After the election by the supervisory board of the "Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists eV (IFP)" and the approval of the German bishops, Wolfgang Sauer has been the spiritual director of the Catholic School of Journalism in Munich since May 1, 2011 .
