Wolfgang Vockel (born December 19, 1955 in Cuxhaven ) is a German politician ( independent ) and former mayor of the district town of Tauberbischofsheim in the Main-Tauber district in north-east Baden-Württemberg in Germany .

Life

Vockel attended the Ritzebüttel primary school in Cuxhaven from 1962 to 1966 . After graduating from elementary school in 1966, he attended high school in Cuxhaven, where he passed his Abitur in 1974. 1974 to 1976 he did military service . From 1976 to 1979 Vockel worked in the preparatory service with subsequent career examination for the upper general administrative service in the state of Lower Saxony . Vockel studied at the Administration Academy Lippe-Detmold from 1980 to 1983. From 1979 to 1986 he was an official of the city administration in Cuxhaven. Before he became mayor of Tauberbischofsheim , he officiated in Lower Saxony as joint director of the joint community of Hadeln and as city ​​director of the city of Otterndorf .

On September 1, 1995, the non-party Wolfgang Vockel was elected mayor of the city of Tauberbischofsheim. He was confirmed in office in 2003 (93.47%) and 2011 (74.64%) with a large majority.

In 2004 Vockel ran in vain as a non-party candidate, supported by the CDU , for the post of Lord Mayor of Konstanz .

Vockel belongs to the district council of the Main-Tauber district, where he is a member of the CDU parliamentary group.

In the mayoral election on June 30, 2019, Vockel achieved the second-best result in the first ballot with 28.4 percent of the vote behind Anette Schmidt , who achieved 39.3 percent. Vockel then announced on July 3rd that after a 24-year term as Tauberbischofsheimer mayor, he would withdraw his application in the second ballot. Vockel held this office until the end of August 2019.
