Wolfgang Wechsler (born June 20, 1930 in Ulm ; † December 20, 2012 in Tübingen ) was a German neuropathologist.

Life

Wechsler first studied forest science at the Albert-Ludwigs-University and became active in the Corps Hubertia Freiburg in 1952 . He switched to medicine in Freiburg im Breisgau and then went to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität . There he also joined the Corps Hansea Bonn in 1954 . As an inactive he moved to the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München . He began clinical training at the Max Planck Institute for Psychiatry . In Munich his doctorate in 1958 for Dr. med. From 1961 he conducted research at the Max Planck Institute for Neurological Research . In 1966 he qualified as a professor at the University of Cologne for experimental neuroanatomy and neuropathology . In 1971 he was in Cologne for apl. Professor appointed. After research stays in the United States , he turned down several appointments to prestigious chairs , including at Washington University in St. Louis and the UCL Institute of Neurology in London . In 1977 he followed the call of Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf as full professor and founding director of the Institute for Neuropathology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf . After 21 years of service, he retired in 1998 .

In 1974/75 and 1990/91 Wechsler was chairman of the German Society for Neuropathology and Neuroanatomy.

He is buried in the old cemetery in Bad Mergentheim.
