Wolfram Frank

Wolfram Frank (born September 15, 1953 in Schopfheim near Lörrach ) is a German writer and theater director .

Life

Wolfram Frank went to school in Heidelberg. From 1970 to 1973 he was a member of the Socialist Student Union and worked with the SDS . He made the acquaintance of Daniel Cohn-Bendit , Joscha Schmierer , Dietrich Lohff and others. a. In 1971 he was expelled from school in Heidelberg. In 1973 he obtained his Abitur in Bensheim / Hessen. At the same time in the first generation of the Heidelberg drug scene, briefly member of the Socialist Patient Collective (SPK) , Heidelberg, 1974 withdrawal.

Frank studied at the University of Education and University of Freiburg i. Br. German and music for higher education, then he completed a legal traineeship in Freiburg for 1 ½ years. In February 1980 he was permanently employed at the high school Kornwestheim / near Stuttgart. Because his girlfriend died in an accident, he resigned from school a month later.

From 1980 to 1983 Frank was assistant director and dramaturge at Theater Basel . As a thesis, he staged the play "La chute - The Fall" by Albert Camus . The world premiere took place in 1983.

Frank then worked from 1984 to 1986 as a dramaturge and director at the city theater in Chur . He married Claudia Knapp and settled in Switzerland. His first productions included u. a. "I speak for myself", a homage to Antonin Artaud (guest performance at the State Theater Stuttgart).

In 1986 Frank founded the independent group IN SITU (on site) in Chur together with the painter and set designer Thomas Zindel , where he was responsible for the conception and staging of most of the productions. In 1986 he was also a freelancer a. a. at the Tagesanzeiger Zurich, WOZ Zurich, Musik-Theater Zurich, SDA . Since 1986 he has also done journalistic work for various newspapers and magazines, yearbooks and exhibition catalogs, as well as essays.

From 1987 to 1990 Frank was also a dramaturge and director at the Landestheater Tübingen (there, among other things, the German premiere of Pasolini's “Calderon”, the world premiere of Nikolaus Lenau's “Don Juan”). He made the acquaintance and events with Claudia Gehrke, Hans MayerWalter Jens , Dacia Maraini , Manfred Frank (professor at the University of Tübingen, not related), Gerd Bergfleht, Yoko Tawada and others. v. a. Frank gave guest productions at the Schauspielhaus Zürich (1988 world premiere of Leonora Carrington's “A Flannel Night Shirt”, with André Jung , Christoph Marthaler and Ruedi Häusermann , among others ), at the Trier Theater (there in 1992 Lessing's “Philotas”, 1993 Dorst's “Fernando Krapp has me this Letter written ”), in Freiburg i. Br. And Heilbronn.

From 2002 to 2005 Frank lived in Paris and began his literary work.

On the day of the further tightening of the asylum law, September 22, 2007, Frank threw discs from the Chur Aliens Police. He was sentenced to a fine at a subsequent trial. As a result, the contributions of the Canton of Graubünden and the City of Chur to IN SITU were halved and continued to decrease.

IN SITU was dissolved in 2012 and the theater acèphale was founded (after G. Batailles group of the same name in 1936). Frank has been living mainly in Havana since the beginning of 2013 , is building a Cuban-Swiss-German theater group and is working on his essay volume “Havana”, among other things.
