The Wolfzahnau weir is an attack weir on the Lech in Augsburg between the Wolfzahnau , which gives it its name, and the Firnhaberau district . It is located on the river kilometer 40.7 about two kilometers above the confluence of the Wertach .

The weir was built between 1882 and 1883 to regulate the river and has a dam height of 5.7 m. In 1966 it collapsed during a flood and was rebuilt a little above until 1967.

Hydroelectric power plant

From 2009 to May 2010, the operator KW Wolfzahnauwehr GbR built a hydropower plant on the eastern side of the river , which, with an expanded flow rate of 60 m³ / s and a 4 m head via a Kaplan turbine, achieves a bottleneck output of 2000 kW and a standard working capacity of 8.5 million kWh should perform per year. The aim is to increase energy production from renewable sources in Augsburg by 10%. The power plant was built on the embankment, above ground only the access to the elevator shaft can be seen. The water inlet is protected by a horizontal rake with smooth edges. A fish ladder was built between the power station and the bank in the form of a 20 m wide rough ramp , which should enable the animals to climb four meters all year round.
