The barrage is located at river kilometer 140.0 in the municipality of Steingaden between Dessau and Hirschau in the Weilheim-Schongau district .

Natural space
The Lech section of the Hirschauer Steilhalde - Litzauer Loop nature reserve extends slightly below the power station . Barrage 5 originally planned here was finally prevented in 1986 by an alliance of residents, scientists and nature conservationists.
