The Lechstaustufe 23 - Merching (also Merch Inger Dam), which since 2003 Mandichosee is, a barrage of Lech between Landsberg am Lech and Augsburg . It is used for hydropower generation by Uniper Kraftwerke GmbH , but also for recreation.

meaning

The reservoir has gained great importance as a leisure paradise for local recreation in the greater Augsburg area; it is the largest body of water in the Aichach-Friedberg district . The barrage is located west of the municipality of Merching and east of Königsbrunn . The reservoir was named Mandicho Lake in 2003 after the Bavarian Prince Mandicho.

There are many options for those looking for relaxation: water sports such as swimming, sailing and surfing ( regattas are held on the lake ), bathing beaches and lawns, hiking and cycling, well-developed walking paths, a playground and a beach volleyball field, kiosk with toilets, water watch station, neighboring alluvial forests .

The barrier structure of the barrage consists of a gravity dam with a weir , combined with an earth dam .

Kuhsee , Auensee , Weitmannsee and Ilsesee are located north of Mandichosee (along the Lech) and can be easily reached by bike. The Lochbach flows west of the Mandichosee and the Lost Brook flows to the east .

water sports

On the east bank of the lake there is a VDWS surf school, which offers windsurfing and stand-up paddling courses and a rental from May to September. The Surf Club Augsburg (SCA), the Seglervereinigung Merching (SVM), the Königsbrunner Segelclub (KSC) and the sailing division of the MBB Sportgemeinschaft Augsburg (MBB SG) are also resident.
