WorldSkills 2013

The WorldSkills 2013 were from 2 to 7 July 2013 in Leipzig discharged. It took place for the third time in Germany after 1961 in Duisburg and 1973 in Munich . 1100 people from 53 countries who were under 23 years of age took part.

This international job competition compares the performance of non-academic professions for apprentices and young professionals up to the age of 23.

The competitions were held in 46 competition disciplines, which were divided into the seven categories of Transport & Logistics , House & Construction Technology , Manufacturing Technology , Communication and Information Technology , Creative Art & Fashion Technology , Social Services and Green Technologies for Sustainable Development .

The 42nd WorldSkills kicked off with an opening event on July 2, 2013, which took place in the Samsung Arena at the Leipzig Trade Fair .

Chancellor Angela Merkel welcomed the participants in a video message:

“To be part of the WorldSkills alone is an award in itself. The key to a promising career is a good education. Qualified junior employees are worth gold for every company. "

The Federal Minister for Education and Research, Johanna Wanka , pointed out that the basis of every state is the education of young people: ""

The St. Thomas Choir performed at the opening event and the “ Flying Steps ” performed with a dance interlude.

In the end, the participants promised fairness and sporty behavior.

The competitions were held from July 3rd to 6th.

On July 7th, the competition ended with one of the official closing ceremonies and the award ceremony, known as the “ Closing Ceremony ”. For this purpose, the stage was redesigned into a winners podium on which the medals were awarded.

The medals were awarded by Johanna Wanka , Sven Morlok and Burkhard Jung , among others . The “ Lazy Basics ”, Poppin Hood , “ Team Recycled ” and Nathan Flutebox Lee provided entertainment .

At the end of the closing event, the WorldSkills 2015 were awarded to São Paolo .

Switzerland

With 9 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals, 18 diplomas and 2 certificates, Switzerland came second in the medal table after Korea and claimed the top of the German-speaking countries.

Germany

43 participants from Germany took part in 38 competitions.

Austria

The Austrian participants were able to win 22 medals, including five gold, two silver, four bronze and eleven achievement diplomas. Compared to WorldSkills 2011 , this was almost double and the highest number of gold medals since 1991 (at that time Austria won gold six times). Austria landed in the top ten and was the best-placed EU nation.

Austria sent 29 participants and took part in the WorldSkills for the 28th time
