The 2017 World Seniors Championship was a snooker tournament that was held from March 22nd to 24th at Baths Hall in Scunthorpe in the north east of England . After the hosting contract, which ran until 2016, had expired, Snooker Legends took over the organization of the event this year.
The defending champion was the Englishman Mark Davis . Unlike in the previous year, the tournament was no longer part of the Snooker Main Tour . This was the first time that professional players were no longer allowed and Davis could not defend his title.
The tournament was won by Peter Lines , who was still a professional until 2016. In four rounds, he did not give a single frame and won the final against John Parrott 4-0.
For record world champion and co-organizer Stephen Hendry it was the first tournament since 2013, Willie Thorne hadn't played a tournament since 2002.
Prize money
With the loss of the previous sponsor Betway, the prize money also fell significantly. The winner got £ 8,000 less than in 2016, losers from the round of 16 got nothing. A total of £ 18,000 instead of £ 50,000 was distributed.
