The ROKiT World Seniors Championship 2020 was a snooker tournament of the World Seniors Tour. It took place from August 19-22, 2020 and was staged for the second time in the Crucible Theater in Sheffield , England , where the professional world championship had been decided directly before .
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , game operations were suspended for a long time in the first half of the year, the professional World Cup and thus also the subsequent Senior World Cup were postponed by a few months. In return, the Senior World Championships benefited from the experience with the pandemic-related hygiene concept of the professional tour, which was already established in Sheffield. Spectators were largely excluded, but the senior tournament was broadcast live for the first time by the BBC as an additional offer.
The defending champion was the Englishman Jimmy White . He reached the final again and was able to repeat the previous year's success with a 5-4 win over Ken Doherty . It was his third win at the tournament.
Prize money
Nothing changed in the distribution of the prize money from the previous year . For the highest break, however, instead of a non-cash prize, there was an additional amount of £ 1,500 .

player
16 players took part in this year's tournament, four fewer than last year. The seeded players were
- Jimmy White (defending champion)
- Michael Judge (No. 1 in the senior ranking)
- Ken Doherty
- Stephen Hendry
They could only meet in the semifinals at the earliest.
Tony Drago from Malta had to cancel his participation as a precaution, the Englishman Wayne Cooper moved up for him . He and the other eleven players were randomly allocated the free places in round 1.
All 16 participants came from either the UK or Ireland.
Tournament course
With the exception of the final, the games were played in best-of-7 mode ; the final was decided over nine frames. All games were played one after the other at one table, the first round was spread over two days, the quarter-finals took place on Friday and the semi-finals and final took place on Saturday.
The tournament developed into a favorite tournament from the start. In addition to the four seeded players, three players who had previously won the World Seniors Championship won in Round 1: Morgan , Lines and Canavan. The eighth match won the ex-professional Wayne Cooper against the pure amateur Gary Filtness. The favorite victories continued in the quarter-finals, so that the four seeded players were among themselves in the semi-finals. There Jimmy White beat the Scot Stephen Hendry , against whom he had lost 4 of 5 World Cup finals at the Crucible in the 1990s. Ken Doherty , the only Irish world champion, won against his compatriot Michael Judge .

final
Jimmy White was in the final for the third time, as often as only Steve Davis before . He had won the first edition after the tournament was established in 2010 and the [[Crucible Theater | Crucible]] debut the previous year. Ken Doherty was the second Irishman since 2010 and thus the second non-British in the final. In the first frame, White punched 4 reds, but couldn't break it. Doherty took two shots for the first point. Even after that, the Englishman never got more than 15 points in a row and so Doherty moved, among other things, with two 50 breaks frame by frame to 4: 0. He was only one frame missing, but in the 5th game he missed two chances for a higher break. But White came into play better and with breaks of 25 and 42 points he got his first point. Frame 6 was similar. Frame 7 was contested, on the way to victory White missed the blue, Doherty punched, but failed with Pink. White cleared the table with pink and black and created the 3: 4 connection.
In the next frame, the Irishman missed the red after 37 points. White was now in swing and with his first break over 50 points he managed to completely turn the game around and force the decision frame. Doherty attacked the 9th frame offensively, but didn't get more than 2 points. White, on the other hand, managed to enter a high break after an inadequate safety from the Irishman, with which he won the frame and thus the match. With 5: 4 he successfully defended his previous year's title.
