action

Marie and Peter's life seems perfect, but their greatest wish remains unfulfilled: a family of their own. After several painfully unsuccessful attempts to have a child naturally, Marie and Peter decide to attempt adoption in Russia. Carried by their longing and after many months of preparation and waiting, they set off to meet their future daughter Nina in a children's home, thousands of kilometers from Germany. Little did they suspect that they are only at the beginning of a tour de force against the Russian authorities - and facing the greatest challenge for their relationship, because while Marie and Peter are fighting for their future child, the question arises: Are we still following this same goal? Each for himself - and especially as a couple?

background

Producer Michael Polle had the idea to film this true story during a reading by Marion Gaedicke in Munich. The film was shot in 2016 in Berlin as well as Lodz and Warsaw , which were used as locations for the Russian part of the story.

Wish children had its international festival premiere in the competition of the Fipa Festival 2017 in Biarritz .

criticism

Ralf Weigand writes in the Süddeutsche Zeitung : "A film that one has to marvel at."

Ulrich Feld writes in the Frankfurter Neue Presse : "More exciting than many thrillers."

Ulla Hanselmann writes in the Stuttgarter Zeitung : "These are pictures that go to the heart, manipulate the viewer mercilessly: one inevitably interprets grief, longing, suffering into the big eyes of the little ones and their upstretched arms - and wishes each one of the children that what they have so far been denied: to be a desired child.

Heike Hupertz writes in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung : "Objectively, precisely because of this, close to the characters, always with a certain distance, which is due to the respect for the individual life decisions of the married couple shown, the film describes the path to almost the last chance Adoption. And even further to (legal) international adoption, its hurdles and difficulties. Dorothee Schön's precise script (“ The Last Beautiful Day ”, “ Frau Böhm says no ”) avoids clichés as does the almost documentary camera work by Alexander Fischerkoesen . that give space to see, scenes and dialogues that leave room to think for yourself, accompany Marie ( Victoria Mayer ) and Peter Meisner ( Godehard Giese ) on their perhaps futile journey to becoming a dream child they themselves every overdramatization. “Desired children” renounces all, including the emotional, exaggerations, the artificial e Accompany fertilization and non-biological parenthood in the public eye.
