Yama (also: Yaama , Yamma ) is a village in the Badaguichiri rural community in Niger .

The village, led by a traditional chief ( chef traditionnel ), is located around 22 kilometers southeast of Badaguichiri, the capital of the rural community of the same name, which belongs to the Illéla department in the Tahoua region. Larger villages in the area are Dindi in the northeast, Toubout in the east and Dabnou and Tchouroutt in the southwest. The townscape is characterized by traditional individual farms and large round granaries made of clay. In the area around Yama there is barren vegetation, only directly north of the village is a comparatively fertile dry valley .

At the 2012 census, Yama had 7351 residents who lived in 1282 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 3,395 in 531 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 3,379 in 590 households.

The center of village life is to architecturally significant, the local architect Falcon Barmou built Great Mosque of Yama . Here, in the old town center, there is also the seat of the traditional mayor and several small shops. The main road from Yama continues to the west on an unpaved country road, which takes about half an hour to reach the trunk road N29 between Tahoua and Tsernaoua .
