Badaguichiri is a rural community in the Illéla department in Niger .

geography

Badaguichiri is located in the Sahel region in the impassable Ader Doutchi mountain landscape , which is intersected by several valleys such as the Badaguichiri Valley ( vallée de Badaguichiri ) and the Lassa Valley ( vallée de Lassa ). The neighboring communities are Illéla , Bambeye and Kalfou in the northwest, Tamaské in the northeast, Allakaye in the east, Doguérawa in the southeast and Malbaza and Tajaé in the southwest. The municipality is divided into 45 villages and 37 hamlets. The main town of the rural community is Badaguichiri village. Other larger villages are Dindi , Kaoura Abdou , Toubout and Yama .

The rural community Badaguichiri emerged as an administrative unit in 2002 from the eastern part of the canton Illéla / Tajaé.

population

At the 2001 census, Badaguichiri had 88,976 residents. At the 2012 census, the population was 115,491. The majority of the population are Hausa , there are also minorities of Fulbe and Tuareg .

politics

In the local elections in July 2004, Harouna Arzika ( PNDS-Tarayya ) was elected mayor. On April 15, 2010, the Council of Ministers appointed Allolo Abdelkader as the Associate Administrator ( Administrateur Délégué ) of the municipality.

Culture and sights

The Great Mosque of Yama is an architecturally significant Friday mosque in the municipality of Badaguichiri. The mosque was built from 1962 according to plans by the architect Falké Barmou . The builder of the mosque was Elhadj Habou, with whom the architect also worked on other projects. Falké Barmou also directed a redesign and expansion of four minarets that took place from 1975 to 1982 . In 1986 the mosque was awarded the Aga Khan Prize for Architecture . It is characterized by a style-forming combination of traditional Hausa architecture with experimental elements. In 2006, the Nigerien Ministry of Culture of the proposed UNESCO inclusion of mosques in the territory of the region of Tahoua in the list of world cultural heritage before and it especially emphasized the cultural significance of the Great Mosque of Yama.

Economy and Infrastructure

In Badaguichiri there is a large cattle market and seven other weekly markets. The economic cornerstones of the rural community are cattle breeding and especially the cultivation of millet, sorghum and black peas . Badaguichiri is located on the paved national road 29 , which connects the place with the regional capital Tahoua in the north and meets the national road 1 in the south in Tsernaoua . The health and school systems are insufficiently developed.
