from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yasin ( Arabic يس' - sīn '), also Yassin , Yacine and Yassine , is a male Arabic given name . But it is also used in other Islamic cultures, such as in Turkey , Pakistan , Morocco , Bosnia or Indonesia and is also used as a family name .

Arabic writing forms

Koran: يس, actually a juxtaposition of letters ي Yāʾ / y / andس Sīn / s /.

Slang: ياسين, contracted as the word Yāsīn .

origin

Yasin is the name of sura 36 of the Koran (see: Ya-Sin ) and is a combination of the letters and sīn , which introduce this sura.

meaning

The Koran exegetes have two opinions about the meaning and interpretation of these letters: One group assigns them to the category of mutaschabih ("ambiguities"), the exact meaning of which only God knows. Another group assigns them to the category of interpretable words.

One interpretation sees this name as a challenge from God, which is also formulated several times in the Koran and which is addressed to the Arabic-speaking non-Muslims: If Mohammed is not a prophet , then they should write something similar to the Koran with the same letters. But if they could not do that, then this is evidence of Muhammad's prophethood.
