Yngsjö is a place ( Tatort ) in the southern Swedish province of Skåne län and the historic province of Skåne . The place in the municipality of Kristianstad is located on Hanöbucht and is a popular holiday resort with a large area of summer houses because of its sandy beaches. Yngsjö only had about 300 inhabitants for a long time, but recently the population rose to over 500 (2015). In the summer months, the number multiplies due to the large number of holiday guests.

There is a school in the village as well as the Yngsjö Havsbad beach complex, the Kastanjelund restaurant and a supermarket. The Helge å River flows through the south of the village and flows into the Baltic Sea a few kilometers further on . The place also has a small sports club: Yngsjö idrottsförening (YIF). Nearby is the (very) small lake Yngsjösjön and the Pulken bird watcher. Since 1996 there has also been a professional theater group in town, the Teater Nostra.

history

Yngsjö was first mentioned in a document in 1135 as insjö . The name comes from the nearby small Yngsjösjön (Swedish sjö = lake).

Yngsjö and the Helge å

Yngsjö is now on a kind of island between the two mouths of the Helge å. This used to be different: only a flood of meltwater in 1775 disrupted the natural structure. The residents of Yngsjö undertook a digging operation and tried to divert the flood water through a dig. In the end, however, the whole river looked for a new course. The main estuary, which had previously been in Åhus , was now at Yngsjö. Only a small tributary still flowed over a graft towards Åhus.

This incident changed the life of the Yngsjöer abruptly: They now lived on an island and had to cope with the fact that they could no longer travel south without any problems. The first temporary wooden bridge was therefore built over the new course of the Helge å in November 1775. Yngsjö's innkeepers had to bear the costs of this bridge, as they were legally obliged to provide transport to and through Yngsjö. When this first bridge and also another wooden bridge gave in to erosion, ferries were used, which initially crossed a little further upstream, and later then directly to the south of Yngsjö.

In 1865 the hand-drawn ferry was replaced by a wooden pile bridge that survived into the 20th century. By then it was so rotten that it was closed in 1907. However, due to a lack of alternatives, it was in use until 1912. That year work began on a new concrete arch bridge, which was completed in 1915. In the construction phase, a temporary wooden bridge was used, which was directly connected to the new concrete bridge. In 1915 this new concrete bridge with three arches, the Gamla Yngsjöbron ("Old Yngsjö Bridge"), was finally inaugurated. In 1965 the Nya Yngsjöbron, the "New Yngsjö Bridge", was finally completed, which is also suitable for traffic with cars.

Incorporations

Yngsjö has been part of Kristianstad municipality since the municipality reform in 1971 . Before that, the place belonged to Åhus kommun , the municipality of Åhus, which became part of Kristianstads kommun in the course of the municipality reform .

Economy and Infrastructure

Yngsjö lives mainly from tourism due to its favorable location on the Baltic Sea. In front of Yngsjö there is a kilometer-long sandy beach along the coast of Hanö Bay . There are therefore around 1700 holiday homes in the area, which are often only inhabited temporarily, mainly in summer. The Yngsjö Havsbad facility is located on the beach and includes a restaurant, several apartment buildings, a campsite and a mini golf course. There is also a campsite on the south bank of Helge å, where you can also rent canoes and small boats for fishing or for an afternoon on the river.

Another economic factor is gastronomy: in the center of the village is the elegant restaurant and hotel Kastanjelund. Fishing is also important for the Yngsjö economy, especially river eels . The eels are particularly abundant here, so the coast along Hanö Bay is also called Ålakusten . In the vicinity of Yngsjö there are several eel smokers that process eels caught in the river and sea on the spot (e.g. Martins rökeri in Nyehusen).

Buildings

Yngsjö Chapel, built in 1906, is located south of Yngsjö on the country road .

Personalities
