Yo Rühmer (* May 1970 in Darmstadt ) is a German freelance illustrator and plein air painter .

Life

Yo Rühmer studied visual communication at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences from 1990 to 1996 and graduated in 1996 with a diploma as a graphic designer . From 1994 she worked - initially during her studies - as a freelance graphic designer for various advertising agencies in Frankfurt am Main . She has been working as a freelance illustrator since 1999.

In addition to advertising agencies, her clients include numerous large companies, institutions and publishers . Her main areas of activity include book illustration in particular . To date (2020) Rühmer has illustrated around 100  books , children's books , school books and other publications such as magazines , puzzles and games.

Rühmer's best-known illustrations include the " Genion -Männchen", with which she illustrated the advertising campaign for the then telecommunications company VIAG Interkom for their new product Genion from 1999–2001 , as well as the characters Einstern and Einstern's sister , which she created in 2004 and 2008 for Cornelsen Verlag and has since used it to illustrate their elementary school math and reading books.

Yo Rühmer is married. The couple lives in Frankfurt am Main.

In addition to her purely digital work as an illustrator, she began painting plein air in 2012. She paints outdoors with oil paints in the alla prima style. In 2020 her book Mal simply outside with practical instructions for plein air painting was published by dpunkt.verlag .
