geography

Zabori is located in the greater Sudan landscape . The neighboring communities are Karakara in the north and east, Dioundiou in the south and Karguibangou in the west. The municipality is divided into 13 administrative villages, 15 traditional villages and three camps. The main town of the rural municipality is the administrative village of Zabori.

The large, periodically water-bearing dry valley Dallol Maouri runs through the municipality . In addition to Tessa and Tounouga, Zabori is one of the communities in the Dosso region with the highest risk of flooding.

history

Zabori was founded in the 18th century by Hausa who, according to tradition, immigrated from Bornu . The French colonial administration turned Zabori into a canton at the beginning of the 20th century . The rural community of Zabori emerged from the canton of Zabori in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform. During the flood disaster in West and Central Africa in 2010 , 824 residents of Zabori were classified as disaster victims. Since 2011, the rural community no longer belongs to the Gaya department , but to the newly created Dioundiou department.

population

At the 2001 census, Zabori had 7957 inhabitants. At the 2012 census, the population was 11,125.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is located in the narrow zone along the border with Nigeria , which extends from Tounouga in the west to Malawa in the east and is used in irrigation farming for cash crops . National Road 2 runs through Zabori and connects the town with Koré Maïroua and Farey , among others .
