Zachary "Zach" David Sobiech (born May 3, 1995 in Stillwater , Minnesota ; † May 20, 2013 ibid ) was an American pop singer and member of the group A Firm Handshake .

Life

At the age of 14 Sobiech developed an osteosarcoma , a malignant bone tumor. He said goodbye to friends and family at the age of 17 with the song Clouds , which was uploaded to YouTube on December 5, 2012 . This generated a lot of media coverage, initially in the USA , and finally in Germany and internationally. Numerous people, groups and artists took part and responded by video with their version of his song, including Ashley Tisdale , Colbie Caillat , Anna Faris , Passenger , Jason Mraz , Rachel Bilson , Chris Pratt , Jenna Elfman , Jenna Fischer , The Lumineers , Bryan Cranston , Ed Helms and Phillip Phillips . As a result, he received a record deal and gave concerts. He let the proceeds flow into the Zach Sobiech Foundation to support bone cancer research. Zach Sobiech died in May 2013 at the age of 18.
