Zacharias Grape (the younger)

Zacharias Grape (the younger) (born October 6, 1671 in Rostock ; † February 11, 1713 ibid) was professor of physics, metaphysics and theology at the University of Rostock .

education and study

Zacharias Grape, son of Rostock professor Zacharias Grape the Elder , attended the city school in his hometown and hometown before moving to Rostock University in autumn 1689. From 1690 to 1692 he continued his studies in Greifswald . At the end of 1694 Grape received his master's degree there.

academic career

That same year Grape went to Wittenberg and the following year to Leipzig , where, according to Falkenberg, he gave lectures. In 1696 Grape returned to Rostock and was accepted into the philosophy faculty.

In April 1698, the Rostock City Council appointed Grape to succeed Joachim Lindemann (1662–1698) as full professor of physics and metaphysics.

Barely a year later, Grape took over the office of archdeacon at the St. Jakobikirche in Rostock . His predecessor in this office was Samuel Starck .

On September 20, 1701, Zacharias Grape was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. Three years later, in September 1704, he was appointed full professor of theology by the City Council of Rostock. Grape took over the vacancy from Franz Wolff since 1697 . In 1707 Grape turned down a call to the University of Greifswald.

The princely professor of theology offered to him at the beginning of February 1713, as well as the offices of consistorial counselor and superintendent, he was no longer able to take up because he died on February 11, 1713.

family

Zacharias Grape was married twice. His first marriage was with Catherina Sophie Quistorp, the daughter of Johann Nicolaus Quistorp , who died in 1706. In his second marriage, Grape was married to Cornelia Magdalena Botsack, daughter of the Copenhagen professor Bartholomäus Botsack .
