Zacharias Vogel
Zacharias Vogel (born April 19, 1708 ; † April 18, 1772 in Lübeck ) was a German doctor who worked in Lübeck in the 18th century.
Life
Zacharias Vogel came from a north German family of doctors, which also included Jakob Leonhard Vogel , who also worked in Lübeck, and his son Adolph Friedrich Vogel . From 1759 he was a member of the Leopoldina .
Zacharias Vogel was married to Maria Sophia, b. Rönnenberg.
Of the couple's sons, Friedrich Gerhard Vogel († March 23, 1814) became a lawyer. He received his doctorate on September 17, 1762 as a Licentiate in Law at the University of Helmstedt . He settled in Hamburg in 1765 and became vicarius in summo at the Hamburg cathedral chapter in 1769 . On October 21, 1801, he married Maria Elisabeth , b. Timmermann, widowed de Boor (1746–1810), a valued painter at the time.
Jacob Christian Vogel (born August 28, 1735 in Lübeck, † August 4, 1814 in Reinbek ) studied medicine, received his doctorate on September 16, 1756 at the University of Greifswald and established himself as a general practitioner in Hamburg. In 1761 he married Margaretha (1727–1807), a daughter of Arnold Amsinck and widow of Peter Richter. In 1800 he gave up his medical practice and moved to Reinbek. He owned an extensive medical library, probably going back to his father, which he had put up for public auction when he left Hamburg. The older writings were bought by the senator and later mayor Wilhelm Amsinck before the auction and donated to the Hamburg City Library, the predecessor of the Hamburg State and University Library .

In addition to his medical work, he published numerous writings, with his work on the types of hernias being emphasized as his most important.
In his book Anatomical, Surgical and Medical Observations and Investigations , he described successful breast cancer operations and was one of the first to definitely advocate the surgical treatment of cancerous tumors.
