occupation

Zaun an Zaun is a German television film from 2017 that was produced by Yalla Productions GmbH for Das Erste on behalf of ARD-Degeto and first broadcast as part of the series Endlich Freitag in Erste . Directed by Peter Gersina , the script was written by Mike Viebrock and Enno Reese. The main character Kenan Ataman is actually Turkish, but has lived in Germany for thirty years and has now mutated into a bourgeois petty bourgeois . When the forced sale of his rented house threatens, he comes to terms with the writer Lissi Weidinger, who is also his landlady, in a creative way, in order to avert the house sale by delivering her new novel on time.

action

The Turk Kenan Ataman immigrated to Germany thirty years ago. In the meantime, however, he is more German than many Germans and has developed into a pedantic petty bourgeois especially since the death of his wife . Tidy and addicted to cleaning, he does not tolerate a speck of dust in his semi-detached house and is meticulously devoted to his deceased wife's rose cultivation in the accompanying garden. Writer Lissi Weidinger lives in the other half of the house and is also Kenan's landlady. She is the exact opposite of him and often has trouble with the " philistine next door". Quite a life artist, she enjoys the chaos in her house and leads a relaxed lifestyle. In doing so, she ignores, for example, the warnings from the bank, which is now threatening to foreclose the duplex because of outstanding installment payments.

When the widower happens to find out about this, he confronts her and puts pressure on her because Kenan doesn't want to move under any circumstances. The solution to the problem would be to complete a new novel that Lissi is currently working on. Unfortunately, the bestselling author has been in a writing crisis since separating from her unfaithful ex-husband and publisher Wolfgang. It is precisely in this overall situation that Lissi also has an apartment fire, of which Kenan is not entirely innocent. To ensure that the writer can deliver the last part of her romance trilogy on time, he grants her asylum and pragmatically looks for ways to get Lissi to write. He also comes out as a fan of Lissi's books, which have proven to be a successful remedy for insomnia since his wife's death.

The two are getting closer and closer personally. Unfortunately, Kenan's adult children Can and Aysel are counterproductive. The two siblings urgently and exclusively want to see their father in a relationship with a Turkish woman and absolutely prevent the community of convenience between Kenan and Lissi from becoming more. The two find an ally in Lissi's daughter Sofie.

Audience ratings

The first broadcast on May 19, 2017 in prime time at 8:15 pm on Das Erste was followed by 3.86 million viewers, which corresponds to a market share of 13.2%. 7.1 percent of the younger viewers opted for the film.

criticism

“All in all, 'fence to fence' turned out to be a bit good for its makers. The figures appear static, the action can be expected. Maral's first production work looks a bit like those old Degeto films on Friday evening that were criticized for seeming to follow a fixed pattern. "

- Eric Leimann on prisma.de

"Silly comedy from the TV suburb"

- tvtoday.de

"Unfortunately, director Peter Gersina was unable to slow down the comedic zeal of the leading actress in particular, which makes many scenes seem exaggerated."

- Tilmann P. Gangloff on Tittelbach.tv
