Markus Lehmann-Horn (born January 7, 1977 in Munich ) is a German composer . His work includes works from contemporary music to film music , jazz and rock . In addition to traditional, he also uses electronic and free tonal composition techniques and is also dedicated to the technical and sonic production and design of his compositions.

biography

Lehmann-Horn took piano lessons from 1984, as well as guitar lessons, but soon specialized in guitar and electric guitar. He learned from Abi von Reininghaus and Gunnar Geisse in Munich and from Michael Arlt in Würzburg. After graduating from high school in 1996 at Geretsried , Lehmann-Horn worked as a freelance guitarist, played numerous studio recordings and concerts with various ensembles and as a guest musician, and wrote his first compositions. From 2000 he took composition lessons with Tobias PM Schneid in Neuburg an der Donau and from 2003 to 2007 studied composition for film and television at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . In autumn 2007 he began the master class in composition with Heinz Winbeck in Würzburg, which he completed. Lehmann-Horn composed commissioned works a. a. for the Munich Opera Festival , the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts , the Kassel Music Days, the Siemens Arts Program, the Windsbacher Boys' Choir , the Neue Oper Wien and the Munich A • DEvantgarde Festival.

Lehmann-Horn is a stylistic border crosser, his interest applies equally to the contemporary avant-garde as well as the sounds and styles of pop music . He wrote numerous film music compositions (with a focus on documentaries) for national and international film productions. a. awarded the Franz Grothe Prize 2009. He has received multiple nominations and an award for best film music at the annual international "Jerry Goldsmith Award" in Spain, as well as a nomination for the International Emmy (2012).

In 2009 he received the Gerhard Schedl Music Theater Prize of the Neue Oper Vienna , in 2010 the Berlin Opera Prize, and in 2011 the Hindemith Prize . Lehmann-Horn is a scholarship holder of the Free State of Bavaria at the Cité Internationale des Arts , Paris. In 2012, the opera “Woyzeck 2.0” was premiered with the “New Vienna Opera” in the Vienna Chamber Opera . In December 2013 the new choral work “Sonat Vox Laetitiae” was premiered with the Windsbacher Knabenchor , in February 2014 the percussion concert “Rot…” was premiered with the NDR Radiophilharmonie in Hanover. In March 2016 Lehmann-Horn's first symphony “Lost in Vienna” was premiered during the 6th Brandenburg Biennale under the direction of Peter Gülke . Lehmann-Horn's music was a. a. Performed by the Ensemble Triolog, Minguet Quartet, BR Rundfunkorchester, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchestra.

From 2009 to 2017 Lehmann-Horn taught as a lecturer for “contemporary composing and producing” at the University of Music and Theater in Munich .

Lehmann-Horn's works are published by the Austrian music publisher Doblinger . He is married to the opera singer Sibylla Duffe and lives with his family in Starnberg in the south of Munich, where he also runs his own recording studio .
