Hello, son-in-law! is a German television film from 2019 that was produced on behalf of ARD-Degeto by Yalla Productions GmbH for Das Erste and premiered as part of the series Endlich Freitag im Erste . Directed led Mike Marzuk , the writer wrote Mike Viebrockhaus and Enno Reese . The main character Toni Freitag is actually Turkish, but has lived well integrated, married and professionally successful in Bavaria for many years. Now he wants to prevent his daughter Franzi from marrying the Turk Osman, a holiday acquaintance.

action

Toni Freitag is the proud father of an adult daughter, happy husband, self-employed craftsman, well-suffering community member, active in the shooting club and volunteer fire brigade and, beyond that, a Bavarian with body and soul. After marrying his German wife Anne Freitag, he was more than successful in suppressing the fact that he is actually Turkish, "Toni" was once his nickname and that his real name was Tolga Büyüktürk. When they unexpectedly prevent him from picking up his daughter from the train station when she returns from her Mallorcan vacation, he gets a strange feeling. And that's right, because it gradually turns out that daughter Franzi actually spent her vacation in Bodrum , Toni's birthplace in Turkey, to learn more about her Turkish roots, and there she got to know the love of her life and his as well Woman knew of everything. But that's not all - daughter Franzi has brought her new partner, the Turkish-born Berlin computer science student Osman Göker with her to her Bavarian homeland, and at the train station she comes into contact with her father for the first time, and Osman speaks to him in Turkish.

Toni is stunned, and since he is neither enthusiastic about Osman nor about his relationship with his daughter, it doesn't take long before father and daughter have an argument. Out of frustration, Franzi tells him that she and Osman want to get married. At least now the alarm bells are ringing for Toni, because according to his imagination, a real guy like the village policeman Bene, who is also the son of his most important client, belongs by his daughter's side. Toni resolves to separate the daughter and the supposed son-in-law. He even finds an ally in Osman's father Mesut (after all, Franzi is not even a real Turkish woman), but as expected , his attempt to solve the problem with laxatives fails miserably. But Toni manages to get Osman to help out at Toni's company on a construction site. There he harasses him with unpleasant activities. In doing so, he completely forgets that his company is currently not in good shape and that he is actually close to bankruptcy . He doesn't even shrink from soliciting secret information about Osman from village policeman Bene in order to compromise him in front of his daughter.

Ultimately, Toni reaches his goal and the two separate. With that, however, the house blessing hangs completely wrong, and he has wife and daughter against him. Toni realizes that he has made a big mistake and does everything in his power to reconcile Osman and his daughter - it only becomes clear to him later that he is also unconsciously saving his company.

background

Adnan Maral, who is also the producer of the film, had the role of Toni written on his body. He also came up with the idea for the film from which Mike Viebrock and Enno Reese then formed the script. The film is not the trio's first collaboration. The ARD comedy Zaun an Zaun from 2017 was also a result of this collaboration.

Hello, son-in-law! was shot from October 17 to November 16, 2018 in Munich and in the Bavarian Oberland .

criticism

“When cultures collide and male stubbornness meets female determination. In 'Servus, son-in-law' everything is correct. "

“Director Mike Marzuk has created an all-round delicious summer comedy about the clash of cultures, splendidly cast down to the smallest role, which in terms of dialog humor, intelligent situational comedy and depth always stands against relevant films such as' Maria, he doesn't taste it 'or' My Big Fat Greek Wedding 'can exist. "

- Wolfgang Platzeck : morgenpost.de

"At least in terms of the image design (Diethard Prengel) in 'Servus, Son-in-Law!' hardly to be mentioned; the film looks like the Friday films in 'Das Erste', including beautiful foggy shots from autumnal Upper Bavaria. Some figures are similarly stereotypical. [...] However, that doesn't change the fact that the comedy is entertaining and worth seeing thanks to the lively dialogues, many funny ideas and the play with clichés. "

- Tilmann P. Gangloff : Tittelbach.tv

“[...] pleasantly subtle and at the same time unmistakably clear, this film tells of the crux between the two cultures: As a German-Turkish, you are Turkish for the Germans and the German for the Turks, while Toni is still part of the alpine backdrop over the decades can have become - if he acts against the core interests of Franzi's ex-boyfriend and his reactionary father, he is no longer the Bavarian as he is in the book, but the Turk.
