The Roosendaal – Vlissingen also Zeeuwse Lijn ( German  Seeland Line or Seeländische Line ) or Staatslijn F is a double-track , electrified main line in the Dutch provinces of Noord-Brabant and Zeeland . The route connects the cities of Amsterdam , The Hague and Rotterdam , as well as the Randstad agglomeration with the regions of Walcheren , Zuid-Beveland and the west of Noord-Brabant.

history

The first section of the line was opened on December 23, 1863 between Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom. The Bergen op Zoom - Goes section followed on July 1, 1868, and the Goes - Middelburg section on March 1, 1872. The route was completed on November 1, 1872 with the last section between Middelburg and Vlissingen. Between 1885 and 1888 Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen expanded the Roosendaal - Middelburg section to two tracks, followed by the Middelburg - Vlissingen section in 1894.

A line track was dismantled during the Second World War . By June 1945 the line was again passable and the second track was largely rebuilt. After the Holland storm flood, train traffic was interrupted for several weeks, and the flood delayed the complete restoration of the second track and electrification by three years.

passenger traffic

Since 2012, an Intercity from Vlissingen to Amsterdam from Bergen op Zoom has stopped at all train stations in Zeeland, i.e. in Rilland-Bath, Krabbendijke, Kapelle-Biezelinge and Arnemuiden, every 30 minutes , which are upgraded to Intercity train stations. This should give the places the opportunity to also connect to the major cities of the Netherlands and the Randstad region. This replaced the hourly local train between Vlissingen and Bergen op Zoom.

During rush hour there are also individual express trains that only stop in Middelburg and Goes between Vlissingen and Bergen op Zoom. These trains are combined in Roosendaal with the slower trains from Vlissingen and thus also offer direct connections to the Randstad.
