Zeitmaultheater

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zeitmaultheater (spelling: ZEITMAULtheater) is a free theater in Bochum .

The theater sees itself as a premiere stage, especially for the works of its director Witek Danielczoks, and describes itself as "a literary theater, a premiere theater, a theater of monologues , a Bochum theater and, last but not least, a music theater ." Pieces by contemporary, living authors should be performed to support this. Monologues that are played and spoken by two or more actors are also specific to the theater : As a rule, neither the gender nor the age of the speaking self can be identified and so the self of a monologue can be adopted by different people.

The Zeitmaultheater is funded by the city of Bochum with three other "creative and experimental groups," the Prinzregenttheater , the Kulturhaus Thealozzi and the Rottstraße 5 Theater . In addition, the piece Escape Show was funded by Stadtwerke Bochum with 12,000 euros as a winning project in the culture category after a public vote for “projects of the heart” by Stadtwerke Bochum . In 2015 funding was again given as a "heart project".

history

The Zeitmaultheater was founded in early 2008 by Witek Danielczok and Darek Ziaja in Bochum, at the same time as Bochum's Rottstr. 5 theaters. A first production was the performative reading Der Weißmaler by Danielczok. Then a group of eight between the ages of 18 and 40 formed around the author. For the first seven years of its existence, the Zeitmaultheater did not have its own venue . Guest performances took place in other Bochum theaters, such as Rottstr. 5 Theater (e.g. at the festival of the last words , 2014), the Thealozzi (e.g. Escape Show , 2014) or the Theater der Gezeiten, in which, for example, the premieres of the plays Lilith , 2011, and Der Labyrinthführer , 2016 , took place. The piece Message ZM was performed in the Forum Free Theater in Düsseldorf. The theater also produces “word portraits”, recordings in which literature , drama , music and film are merged and which are then performed, for example in 2014 in the Marler Stern .

In May 2015 the Zeitmaul found a room in the building of the Free Art Territory , in whose Masala art festival the theater had already participated in 2013. However, the room was terminated from the theater by the owner of the property the day before the first performance there. Thereupon the youth welfare organization St. Vinzenz eV offered the chapel located on their premises as a new venue. In return, theater workshops are held and plays are developed for the youth welfare organization. The patron of the association is Frank Goosen , who names Witek Danielczok and Zeitmaultheater in the acknowledgments of his novel Sommerfest : "Danielczok writes and stages highly exciting texts that he performs with the Zeitmaul Theater at different locations in Bochum." Goosen also thanked him in an interview Bochum's head of the cultural office for help in finding a venue for the Zeitmaultheater, where he also gives readings.

A Romanian congregation, which had used the chapel for church services, moved to another vacant church in Bochum. In December 2015, however, it was still unclear the fate of a historically and artistically valuable mosaic that commemorates the victims of an air raid on June 26, 1943: 104 children were buried in the air raid shelter of the children's home , 65 of them and seven adults died.

In the chapel, the pews were removed, the colorful windows were draped and a stage was moved in. In addition to their own pieces, guest performances, concerts and exhibitions take place. There is room for up to 80 visitors. The new venue was established in December 2015 with a performance of the piece body Legends inaugurated, a pathetic, philosophical, "mystical fair" for and about the body, especially for the musicians with time Maul chapel was founded.
