Zhou Chunxiu
Zhou Chunxiu ( Chinese 周春秀 , Pinyin Zhōu Chūnxiù ; born November 15, 1978 in Jiangsu ) is a Chinese long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon .
In 2003 she won the premiere of the Xiamen Marathon and came second in the Beijing Marathon . The following year she qualified with a victory in Xiamen for the marathon of the Olympic Games in Athens , in which she finished 33rd. At the Half Marathon World Championships in New Delhi she was twelfth and again in Beijing second.
In 2005 she won the Seoul International Marathon and defended her title in Xiamen. At the marathon of the World Athletics Championships 2005 in Helsinki she was fifth and again in Beijing second.
In 2006, as in the previous year, she won the Seoul International Marathon and set a course record with 2:19:51. She won gold at the Asian Games marathon in Doha . The following year she won the London Marathon in 2:20:38 and won the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Osaka , eight seconds behind Catherine Ndereba and ten seconds ahead of Reiko Tosa .
In 2008, she set a course record in the Yangzhou Jianzhen Half Marathon . At the Olympic Games in Beijing she managed to win a medal again. This time she came in bronze behind the winner Constantina Tomescu from Romania and Catherine Ndereba from Kenya.
In 2009 she was twelfth in London and fourth at the World Championships in Berlin and the Beijing Marathon. The following year she finished second in Seoul and defended her title at the Asian Games in Guangzhou .
Zhou Chunxiu is 1.60 m tall and weighs 46 kg.
