Hawk Forest Depression

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Habichtswälder Senke ( natural area 342.1) is the central valley basin of the Habichtswald (main unit 342) running from south to north on the upper reaches of the Warme in the district of Kassel, northern Hesse . It is divided into the 11 km² wide Breitenbacher Mulde (342.10) near the headwaters of the Warme and Ems in the south and the almost 30 km² large Zierenberger Grund (342.11) that runs northwards with the warmth - both practically unforested.

Location and limits

Breitenbacher Mulde

The 11 km² large Breitenbacher Mulde surrounds the eponymous place Breitenbach and, to the west of it, Martinhagen - both districts of the community of Schauenburg . In the north it is passed by the watershed between Eder and Diemel ; north of this watershed, the warmth of the Diemel flows to the north, while the Ems, which rises in the middle of the hollow , leaves the natural area in a south-westerly direction towards the Eder.

The valley floor is almost everywhere above 350  m above sea level. NN ; Also on the watershed, the 400 m are only barely exceeded, while the western hawk forest peaks in the immediate north-western neighborhood, on the Wattenberg , reach 516.2  m and the Langenberg mountains to the south-east near the Mulde, on the Saukopf , reach 511.4  m .

Immediately to the east there is another valley depression in the form of the Hoofer Pforte , to the north follows the Zierenberger Grund, which is also part of the Habichtswälder depression , on the other side of the federal highway 44 . In the northeast, the Breitenbacher Mulde is divided by the junction of the two depressions, but in particular by a mountain spur that is counted as the gate and extends from the Schauenburger Burgberg ( 499.9  m ) to the Lindenberg ( 485.9  m ), from the Hohen Habichtswald (up to 614.8  m ) m ) separated.

Zierenberger Grund

The Zierenberger Grund , which follows the warmer north, is around 9 km long and 3 km wide and follows the course of the river north of the A 44 from a height of around 350  m south of Ehlens ( Habichtswald municipality ) to around 230  m north of the eponymous town of Zierenberg . On the east side of the adjoining, at the Großer Bärenberg 600.7  m high Hinterhabichtswald , the natural area Dörnberg and Schreckenberge with the Hohen Dörnberg ( 578.7  m ) and, further south, the Hohe Habichtswald with the Hohen Gras ( 614, 8  m ) opposite.

While the Warmetal narrows to the north into the Malsburger Wald , another part of the Habichtswälder valley joins to the south in the form of the Breitenbacher Mulde .
