The Zollner vom Brand (also: Zolner, Zöllner, Zollner uff dem Brand, Zollner vom Brandt) were a patrician family from Bamberg with a line in the Free Imperial City of Nuremberg , first mentioned in Nuremberg in the 13th century. The Zollner were represented in the Inner Council of Nuremberg from 1402 to 1471 .

history

The origin of the various lines of the Zollner was in Bamberg. There were the respected Zollner, also called Geyer, whose name the Geyerswörthschloss still bears today, the Zollner von Kirchschletten and the Zollner vom Brand. The epithet is said to have originated around 1250 and 1280, when two fires destroyed the urban area of Sand below the cathedral. This district has since been called the "fire". In 1328 Eberhard von Zollner acquired the later parent house on the fire opposite the Dominican monastery. The Zollner should later have chosen their name attribute after this designation.

The Zollner vom Brand divided into two main lines, the Bamberg and Bischberg lines, which have been documented since 1406. In 1482 Jörg Zollner von Brand took over the possession of the Haller in Bischberg and became the largest landlord of Bischberg.

In Nuremberg the Zollner were first mentioned in the 13th century and the first assumptions of civil rights are documented at the beginning of the 14th century. In the years between 1402 and 1471, members of the Zollner von Brand were represented in the Inner Council. They can be verified in Nuremberg until 1543.

The Zollner were considered noble since the late Middle Ages and entered into numerous marital relationships with imperial knightly families. However, the Zollner von Brand litigated the Bamberg Bishop for recognition of their nobility in the middle of the 16th century.

Already in 1636 the Zollner von Kirchschletten died out in the male line and their male fiefs fell back to the feudal lord. The Bamberg line of Zollner vom Brand died out in 1765 and the last male representative of the family, Carl Maximilian Freiherr Zollner von Brand, died in Bischberg in 1776. His cousin's son, Johann Peter Albrecht Zollner von Brand, born in 1739, was considered missing and was declared dead in 1809.
