Zurich ( West Frisian Surch ) is a district of the municipality of Southwest Fryslân in the Dutch province of Friesland . The place had 190 inhabitants in 2017.

Until the end of 2010, Zurich was part of the municipality of Wonseradeel , which became part of the newly formed municipality of Southwest Fryslân. The small town is located directly on the dike that protects the village from the floods of the southern Wadden Sea . The church and the only restaurant in town are striking. Some visitors to this place are tourists from Switzerland , as the place name Zurich is reminiscent of the city of Zurich .

Surroundings
Zurich is not far from the north-eastern driveway to the so-called final dike , which seals off the IJsselmeer from the North Sea and can be accessed by cars via a motorway and bicycles. The most famous place nearby is Makkum , about 7 km south. The port city of Harlingen with the ferry port to the North Sea islands of Vlieland and Terschelling is also not far away in the north of Zurich .
