Allan Benny

Allan Benny (born July 12, 1867 in New York City , †  November 6, 1942 in Bayonne , New Jersey ) was an American politician . From 1903 to 1905 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Allan Benny attended the public schools in Bayonne. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1899, he began to work there in his new profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1892 to 1894 Benny was a member of Bayonne City Council; from 1898 to 1900 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly . He then worked as a public prosecutor in Bayonne until 1903.

In the congressional elections of 1902 Benny was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the then newly created ninth electoral district of New Jersey , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1903. Since he was defeated by Republican Marshall Van Winkle in 1906 , he was only able to serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1905 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Allan Benny practiced law again. He was also the assistant manager of the Jersey City Court Library . He died in Bayonne on November 6, 1942.
