Randolph Perkins (born November 30, 1871 in Dunellen , New Jersey , †  May 25, 1936 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1936 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1879, Randolph Perkins came to Jersey City with his parents , where he attended public schools. He then graduated from the Cooper Union School in New York City . After a subsequent law degree and his license to practice law in 1893, he began to work in Jersey City in this profession. In 1902 he moved to Westfield and in 1909 to Woodcliff Lake . He practiced as a lawyer in both places. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . From 1903 to 1905 Perkins served as Mayor of Westfield. Between 1905 and 1911 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly , of which he was president in 1907. From 1911 to 1916 he led the Republican party leadership in Bergen County .

In the 1920 congressional election , Perkins was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington in the sixth constituency of New Jersey, where he succeeded John R. Ramsey on March 4, 1921 . After seven re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on May 25, 1936 . Since 1933 he represented there as the successor to George N. Seger the seventh district of his state. From 1925 to 1931 he was chairman of the Committee on Coinage, Weights and Measures . Since 1933, the first New Deal laws of the federal government were passed in Congress under President Franklin D. Roosevelt . In 1933 the 20th and 21st amendments were also ratified. Perkins was also involved in the conduct of impeachment proceedings against two federal judges Harold Louderback and Halsted L. Ritter in 1933 and 1936 .

At the time of his death, Randolph Perkins had already been nominated for re-election by his party. He died suddenly of a kidney infection.
