John A. Scudder

John Anderson Scudder (born March 22, 1759 in Freehold , Monmouth County , Province of New Jersey , †  November 6, 1836 in Washington , Indiana ) was an American politician . In 1810 and 1811 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Scudder attended public schools in his home country and then studied at Princeton College until 1775 . After a subsequent medical degree and his license as a doctor, he began to work in Monmouth County in this profession. In 1777 he served as a doctor in a unit out of Monmouth County during the Revolutionary War . In 1788 and 1789, Scudder served as secretary of the New Jersey Medical Society . From about 1800 he was also politically active as a member of the Democratic-Republican Party . From 1801 to 1807 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly .

After the death of MP James Cox , Scudder was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the fourth seat of New Jersey , where he took up his new mandate on October 31, 1810. Since he refused to run again in the regular elections of 1810 , he was only able to end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1811 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, John Scudder practiced as a doctor again. He later moved to Kentucky and then in 1819 to Daviess County , Indiana. He died there on November 6, 1836.
