Matthew John Rinaldo (born September 1, 1931 in Elizabeth , New Jersey , † October 13, 2008 in West Caldwell , New Jersey) was an American politician .

Rinaldo studied at Rutgers University in New Brunswick , New Jersey, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1953 . In 1959 he received his Masters of Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business Administration at Seton Hall University . 1979 followed his Doctor of Public Administration at the School of Public Administration at New York University .

Rinaldo was a member of the New Jersey Senate from 1967 to 1972 . He was then elected as a Republican to Congress and represented there for 20 years, from January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1993, first the twelfth and later the seventh constituency of the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives . In the elections to the 103rd Congress , he did not run for another term.
