Cornelius A. Cadmus

Cornelius Andrew Cadmus (born October 7, 1844 in Dundee Lake , New Jersey , †  January 20, 1902 in Paterson , New Jersey) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1895 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Cornelius Cadmus attended public schools in his homeland. He then worked in the grain and seeds business in Paterson. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1884 and 1885 he was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly ; from 1887 to 1890 he was sheriff chief of police in Passaic County .

In the congressional elections of 1890 Cadmus was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of New Jersey , where he succeeded Charles D. Beckwith on March 4, 1891 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1895 . In 1894 he renounced another candidacy. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Cadmus resumed his previous activities. He was also a member of the New Jersey State Penitentiary Inspection Commission. He died on January 20, 1902 in Paterson, where he was also buried.
