Thomas Sinnickson (politician, 1786)

Thomas Sinnickson (born December 13, 1786 in Salem , Salem County , New Jersey , †  February 17, 1873 ibid) was an American politician . In 1828 and 1829 he represented the state of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Sinnickson attended public schools in his home country and then went into commerce. He also became a judge on an appeals court. He held this office for over 20 years. Politically, Sinnickson became a supporter of President John Quincy Adams in the 1820s . At the end of that decade he became a member of the short-lived National Republican Party . Meanwhile, Sinnickson was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly .

After the death of MP Hedge Thompson , Sinnickson was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on December 1, 1828. Since he renounced another candidacy in the regular congressional elections of 1828 , he could only end the current legislative period until March 3, 1829.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Sinnickson withdrew from politics. As a result, he did not take up his previous activities. He died on February 17, 1873 in his native Salem. His uncle Thomas of the same name was also a member of Congress for the state of New Jersey . He was also related to the MP Clement Hall Sinnickson (1834-1919).
