Shahid Kapoor (Hindi: शाहिद कपूर) born February 25 1981 in Mumbai, India is a Bollywood actor and model.

Starting off his career by working in music videos and ads, Shahid made his Bollywood debut as a background dancer in Subhash Ghai's Taal (1999). After four years, Kapoor made his debut as a leading actor in Ishq Vishk (2003) and won a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance. Following through with critically acclaimed performances in films like Fida (2004) and Shikhar, he had his first commercial success with Sooraj R. Barjatya's Vivah (2006) and the film turned out to be his biggest commercial success so far. Since then he has established himself as one of the most promising actors of the industry.

Career

Before starting off his career as an actor, Kapoor worked in several music videos and ads, including one with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, post Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In 1999, he was seen in the hit movie Taal as a background dancer with Aishwarya Rai in the song 'Kahiin aag lage lag jawe'.

Kapoor made his debut with the moderately successful Ishq Vishk (2003) opposite actress Amrita Rao and won a Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for his performance in the film.[1] In 2004, he starred in two more films: Fida, a thriller co-starring his ex-girlfriend, Kareena Kapoor and Fardeen Khan as well as Dil Maange More, a romantic comedy alongside Soha Ali Khan, Tulip Joshi, and Ayesha Takia. Both films bombed at the box office,[2] but he received positive reviews for his performance in the former.[3]

In 2005, he had a setback in his career when all three of his films, Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi, Deewane Huye Pagal, and Shikhar failed to do well at the box office.[4] However his performance in the latter was praised and he received a Star Screen Best Actor nomination for his performance in the film.[5]

In 2006, things began turning around as he received his first box office success since his debut with the multi-starrer, 36 China Town. Despite mixed reviews the comic-thriller became an above-average success.[6] Shortly after the release of 36 China Town, Kapoor's second release, Chup Chup Ke (2006) released, which was an average success.[7] Following that year, he was seen in Sooraj R. Barjatya's blockbuster Vivah, which became his biggest commercial success so far.[8] His performance was well appreciated with audiences and critics both in India and abroad[9] and the movie became one of the biggest grossers of 2006.[10]

During the summer of 2006, Kapoor embarked on a World Tour along with fellow Bollywood stars, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, John Abraham, Esha Deol, Mallika Sherawat and Zayed Khan.

Ahmed Khan's Fool and Final, his first release in 2007, opened to average reviews and did below average business at the box office. However, his latest release Jab We Met co-starring Kareena Kapoor, for which he won positive reviews, has proved to be a major success in India and a blockbuster in UK.

He will soon be seen in two upcoming films - Nagesh Kukunoor's Tasveer with Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Takia and Aziz Mirza's Lucky Charm opposite Vidya Balan.
