WrestleMania XXIV is the forthcoming twenty-fourth annual WrestleMania professional wrestling pay-per-view produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It is scheduled to take place on March 30 2008 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The event will be the first WrestleMania to be held in the state of Florida.[1] It will also be the second WrestleMania to be held entirely outdoors, the only other having been WrestleMania IX. WWE and the city of Orlando plan to host festivities that will span over a five day period within the central Florida region bringing numerous branding opportunities and television coverage, leading up to the event at the Citrus Bowl.[2] Despite the risks of an outdoor show, WWE chairman Vince McMahon has announced that the "show will go on, regardless of the weather."[3] The Central Florida Sports Commission estimate WrestleMania XXIV will pump $25 million into the local economy while creating numerous jobs, and bring around 60,000 visitors to the city for the event.[4]

WrestleMania XXIV will be a joint-promotion pay-per-view event, featuring performers from the RAW, SmackDown, and ECW brands. The tagline for WrestleMania XXIV is "The Biggest WrestleMania Under the Sun".[5] The official theme songs for the event are "Snow ((Hey Oh))" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and "Light It Up" by Rev Theory.[6] Tickets went on sale to the public on November 3 2007.[7] Over 41,000 tickets were sold in 30 minutes, already making WrestleMania XXIV the highest-grossing event in the history of the Citrus Bowl.[8]

Background

John Cena won the 2008 Royal Rumble match. As a result, he was allowed to face a world champion of his choosing at WrestleMania XXIV for that champion's title.[9] On the January 28 2008 edition of RAW, Cena elected to face WWE Champion Randy Orton at No Way Out 2008 instead of waiting for WrestleMania. Cena won the match by disqualification so he did not leave No Way Out with the title.

William Regal announced that at No Way Out, an Elimination Chamber match would take place in which the winner would face the WWE Champion for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXIV.[10] Triple H won the match, last eliminating Jeff Hardy.

On the February 18 edition of RAW, William Regal made a nontitle rematch between John Cena and Randy Orton with the special stipulation being that if Cena won he would be added to the title match to make it a triple threat match, with Triple H also being the special guest referee for the match. Cena ended up winning the match.

On The February 1 edition of SmackDown!, Theodore Long announced that another Elimination Chamber match would take place at No Way Out, in which the winner would face the World Heavyweight Champion for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXIV.[11] The Undertaker won the match, last eliminating Batista. He is now scheduled to wrestle Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship.
