The Baltimore Orioles enter the 2008 season led by Dave Trembley, who enters his first full season as manager. President of Baseball Operations Andy MacPhail continues the rebuilding process. Superstars Miguel Tejada and Erik Bedard have already been traded for younger talent with talks of Brian Roberts possibly leaving as well.

Closer Chris Ray is out for the season after Tommy John surgery, and so is his replacement Danys Báez. Left-hander George Sherrill, recently acquired from the Mariners, has been named the team's closer for the 2008 season, while Jeremy Guthrie has been named the Opening Day starter after an impressive rookie season and several solid spring training outings.

Baseball America listed the organization's top 10 prospects at the beginning of the 2008 season; two of them have made MLB appearances:

  • Radhames Liz (RHP): 0-2, 9 games (4 starts), 24⅔ IP, 6.93 ERA, 23 BB, 24 K
  • Troy Patton (LHP): 0-2, 3 games (2 starts), 12⅔ IP, 3.55 ERA, 4 BB, 8 K
