One Night Stand (2008) will be the fourth annual One Night Stand professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It will take place on June 1 2008 at the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, California and will feature talent from the Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands. The official theme song was "Hell Yeah" by Rev Theory. The tagline was "The One Night a Year When the WWE Goes Extreme."

Background

The main feud heading into One Night Stand on the Raw brand is between Randy Orton and Triple H, with the two battling over the WWE Championship. At Backlash, Triple H last pinned Orton in the Fatal Four-Way Elimination match to win the WWE title. At Judgment Day, Triple H defeated Orton in a Steel cage match to retain the WWE Championship after hitting Orton with a steel chair and delivering a Pedigree, to get the pinfall. On the May 19 episode of Raw, then General Manager William Regal booked a tag team match between the teams of Orton and John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL) against John Cena and Triple H. If Orton and JBL had won, they would have received re-matches against Triple H and John Cena, respectively, at One Night Stand in an extreme match of their choosing. However, if Cena and Triple H had won, then the pair would have faced each other for the WWE Championship, with Regal choosing the match type. After Orton and JBL won the tag team match, Orton announced that he and Triple H would compete in a Last Man Standing match against Triple H for the WWE Championship at One Night Stand. JBL announced that he and Cena would compete in a First Blood match at One Night Stand.

Another feud heading into One Night Stand, is between Shawn Michaels and Batista. The feud began after Batista expressed his remorse over the retirement of Ric Flair at WrestleMania XXIV, which was caused by Michaels getting the pinfall over Flair in Flair's career threatening match. During the rivalry, a match between Batista and Michaels took place at Backlash, with Chris Jericho as the special guest referee. At the end of the match, Michaels staged a knee injury, which helped him to defeat Batista via pinfall after he performed Sweet Chin Music on Batista. In following weeks, Batista remained skeptical about Michaels injury, although Michaels admitted faking the injury to Jericho on the May 12 edition of Raw. Batista defeated Jericho on the May 19 2008 episode of Raw to earn the right to face Michaels at One Night Stand in a Stretcher match.

The main feud from the SmackDown brand is between Edge and The Undertaker, with the two battling over the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. At Backlash, The Undertaker defeated Edge to retain the World Heavyweight Championship, by making Edge submit to his submission chokehold, the Gogoplata. On the May 2 edition of SmackDown, General Manager Vickie Guerrero stripped The Undertaker of the title and banned his chokehold to "protect the SmackDown superstars". At Judgment Day, The Undertaker and Edge faced off against each other in a match again for the vacant World Heavyweight title. The Undertaker won the match by countout, however, Vickie Guerrero announced that as per WWE rules, championships cannot change hands, or be captured by disqualification or countout. On the May 23 episode of SmackDown, Vickie announced a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match between Edge and The Undertaker at One Night Stand for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship, with the stipulation that if The Undertaker should lose the match, he would be fired from the WWE.

The main feud heading into One Night Stand from the ECW brand is between CM Punk, Chavo Guerrero, Tommy Dreamer, John Morrison and Big Show. On the May 20 edition of ECW, General Manager Armando Estrada announced a Fatal Four-Way, Singapore Cane on a pole match, for One Night Stand featuring Punk, Guerrero, Dreamer, and Morrison, where the winner would receive an ECW Championship match against Kane at Night of Champions. Later that night, the team of Guerrero and Morrison defeated the team of Dreamer and Punk by pinfall in a tag team match. However, after the match, Big Show attacked all four superstars. Big Show then announced that he would also compete in the match One Night Stand, making it a five-man Singapore Cane match.

The latest feud is between Divas Beth Phoenix and Melina who will battle in an "I Quit" match. After Phoenix lost her Women's Championship match to Mickie James in London, she invoked her rematch clause with a lumberjill match. As the referee was distracted by constantly interfering lumberjills, Melina took off her boot and ran into the ring to strike Mickie from behind; James, however, sensed the attack and ducked leading Melina to strike Phoenix causing her to lose the match. The following week Beth attacked Melina backstage and threw her into a set of lockers, leading to Melina being placed in a Triple Threat match at Judgment Day for the Women's title in which James retained by pinning Melina. Feeling cheated out of a match in which she was physically dominant, Phoenix is seeking revenge by humiliating Melina into saying "I quit."

  • Jeff pinned Umaga after a Swanton Bomb off a parking lot semi-trailer.
• The Big Show defeated CM Punk, John Morrison, Chavo Guerrero and Tommy Dreamer in a Singapore Cane match to earn an ECW Championship match at Night of Champions
  • Big Show pinned Dreamer after he hit him with a Singapore cane.
• John Cena defeated John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL) in a First Blood match
  • JBL bled from the mouth after Cena applied an STFU with a chain around his neck.
• Beth Phoenix defeated Melina in an "I Quit" match
  • Phoenix forced Melina to say "I Quit" via a submission hold.
• Batista defeated Shawn Michaels in a Stretcher match
  • Batista placed Michaels on a stretcher and pushed it across the line after he delivered a Spinebuster on Michaels onto the steel ring steps.
  • During the match Chris Jericho interfered on Michaels behalf.
• Last Man Standing match for the WWE Championship: Triple H (c) vs. Randy Orton
• Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship: The Undertaker vs. Edge
