I'll begin by saying I can't wait till an over-zealous Wikipedia editor stumbles across this page and will no doubt try to delete what I've written because it's classed as vandalism, even though it's my own page, and the thoughts expressed therein are totally ineffectual to them.

Michael Joseph Jackson, the seventh of nine children, was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, to Joseph Jackson and Katherine Jackson. He was a child prodigy, first noted in 1969, for his appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show, fronting the Jackson Five. Their first four singles; I Want You Back, "ABC", "The Love You Save", and "I'll Be There" all went to No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1970, between January 31st - November 20th. These were to be the only No.1's of their recording career, and a record they maintained for over 20 years, until Mariah Carey broke their record on October 6th, 1991 when her song "Emotions", became her fifth consecutive No.1 hit single.

It would be a full decade before Michael would truly make an impression as a solo artist with the release of his fifth studio album, and first for Epic Records; Off the Wall. Released just weeks before his 21st birthday on August 10th 1979, it would go onto become one of the most commercially successful albums in the world, with a peak of #3 on the Billboard Hot 200 album charts, and spending 48 consecutive weeks inside the Top 20, becoming the third best-selling album of 1980 in the United States. The album became the first in history to generate four Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, those being; "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough", "Rock with You", "Off the Wall" and "She's out of My Life". Jackson picked up the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough", at the 1980 ceremony. To date, sales of the album are estimated at 20 million copies worldwide, the RIAA certified it 7.00x platinum.

Jackson was disappointed the album only received 1 Grammy award, nonethless he was one of the biggest recording artists in the world, with Off The Wall becoming the best-selling recording by a black artist in history. Michael secured his first solo recording contract with CBS Records in February of 1981. It was a 10 year, 5 album deal. On November 30th, 1982, he released his first album under the contract; Thriller. Thriller became the first album in the history of music to place seven Top 10 hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100, those being; The Girl Is Mine, Billie Jean, Beat It, Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Human Nature, P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) & Thriller. The album became the best-selling in the United States for 1983 & was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling album of all-time in 1984, it went onto become the best-selling album of that year too. Thriller spent 78 consecutive weeks inside the Billboard 200 Top 10, 37 of which were spent at No.1 (non-consecutive). The RIAA certified it 27.00x platinum and worldwide sold in excess of 55 million copies.

On August 31st, 1987, Jackson finally released his follow up album; Bad. The album became his first to debut at No.1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, spending six weeks there. Nine singles were released in total, Jackson set the record by being the first (and currently only) artist to spawn five consecutive number one hit singles from one album in the United States, those being; "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror" & "Dirty Diana". The subsequent singles; "Another Part of Me", "Smooth Criminal", "Leave Me Alone" & "Liberian Girl" all became big hits for Jackson. In September 1994, the RIAA certified it 8.00x platinum, denoting shipments of 8 million in the United States - making it his second best-selling recording there. In July 1992, the BPI certified it 13.00x platinum, denoting shipments of 3.9 million copies - which makes it the best-selling album ever released by a solo artist in the U.K. The album has went onto sell 32 million copies - making it his second best-selling album overall worldwide. Jackson supported this tour by embarking upon his first solo world tour; the Bad World Tour. It kicked off in September of 1987, ending in January of 1989, by which time Jackson had performed 123 concerts to 4.5 million fans worldwide, grossing $125 million at the box-office. It was the biggest grossing world tour od the 1980s.

Jackson's contract expired in February of 1991, and he renewed the following month. The new deal lasted fifteen years, in which time Jackson was to release six albums. He delivered the first; Dangerous in November of 1991. Early record sales were breaking, especially in the United States, the album debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200, where it spent 4 consecutive weeks, selling 4 million copies in under 2 months of release and by 1992 had sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Like it's predecessor, nine singles were released, only four of which hit the Top 10 in the U.S, those being; Black or White - the only number one from the album, Remember the Time, In the Closet & Will You Be There. The other five singles; Jam, Who Is It, Heal the World, Give in to Me & Gone Too Soon were still successful singles for Jackson. Jackson embarked upon the highly successful Dangerous World Tour to promote this album. In the end, the album went onto sell around 30 million copies worldwide. The RIAA certified it 7.00x platinum, a slight slip down on Bad's 8 million and 2.1 million copies in the U.K, 1.8 million less than Bad sold in the U.K.

In June 1995, Jackson released; HIStory. It debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, remaining there for 2 weeks. Jackson made history with the first two single releases from this album. The debut single; "Scream/Childhood", became the highest debuting single in Billboard Hot 100 history, when it entered the chart at No.5 - where it peaked too. The RIAA certified the single Platinum. The video cost $7 million to make, making it at the most expensive music video ever made. It picked up Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video at the 1996 ceremony. The second single made history by becoming the first single to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, earning Jackson a Billboard achievement award, it too went Platinum. The third single, the U.K only Earth Song, became Jackson's best-selling single in the U.K, debuting at No.1, where it spent the next 6 weeks, selling over 1 million copies there. Subsequent single's; "They Don't Care About Us" & "Stranger in Moscow" failed to make an impression in the United States, but became Top 5 hits for Jackson in the U.K. To promote the album, Jackson embarked upon the highly successful HIStory World Tour. It kicked off in September of 1996, ending in October of 1997, by which time Jackson performed 82 concerts to 4.5 million fans worldwide. In the end HIStory sold 18 million copies worldwide (36 million units), making it the best-selling multiple-disc album ever released by a solo artist. The RIAA certified it 7.00x platinum, in recognition of 3.5 million shipments in the United States - only half of what Dangerous sold. In the U.K, the album sold 1.5 million copies, 600,000 copies less than Dangerous.

In May 1997, Jackson released his first ever remix album; Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix. The album became Jackson's first in eighteen years not to go to number one in the United States. Two singles were issued, those being; "Blood on the Dance Floor" & "HIStory/Ghosts", all three failed to make an impression in America, but didn't disappoint in the U.K, where the album and title single went to No.1. "HIStory/Ghosts" became a Top 5 hit there. The album went onto sell 6 million copies worldwide - which makes it the best-selling remix album of all-time.

By 1998, Jackson had finished his HIStory World Tour, and went into somewhat of a pop wilderness, as he went into record an all new studio album. Jackson didn't do anything in 1998, 1999, 2000 and for a good part of 2001. On October 31st, 2001, he finally released; Invincible. As expected, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album chart, however it fell out of the Top 10 within a month. It became Jackson's first album not to spawn a number one hit single, three singles were issued, those being; "You Rock My World" - the only song to make the Top 10, "Cry" & the U.S only - "Butterflies". In the end the album sold around 8 million copies worldwide, the RIAA certified it 2.00x platinum in January 2002. Shortly after the release of Invincible, he released; Greatest Hits - HIStory Volume I, which wasn't a commercial success, eventually achieving Gold status from the RIAA. Since then, Jackson has issued mutliple compilations; Number Ones in 2003, Michael Jackson: The Ultimate Collection in 2004, The Essential Michael Jackson in 2005, Visionary: The Video Singles in 2006 & Thriller 25 in 2008. Jackson is expected to release a new greatest hits album; King of Pop on August 29th, 2008, to mark his fiftieth birthday. There is also speculation that he is recording an all new studio album; TBA
