(1023) Thomana is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on June 25, 1924 by the German astronomer Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth , who worked at the observatory on the Königstuhl near Heidelberg .

The asteroid bears the name of the triad from the St. Thomas Choir , St. Thomas Church in Leipzig and St. Thomas School in Leipzig . The Thomana is based on the initiative of the Margrave Dietrich des Belriedten von Meißen in 1212. A document sealed by Emperor Otto IV on March 20, 1212 at the Frankfurt Reichstag confirms the foundation.

The orbit has a semi-major axis of 3.1636 astronomical units and an orbital eccentricity of 0.1086. Thus it moves at a distance of 2.8199 ( perihelion ) to 3.5073 ( aphelion ) astronomical units in 5.627 a around the sun . The orbit is inclined 10.068 ° to the ecliptic .

The asteroid has a diameter of 58.28 km and an albedo of 0.065.
