(2083) Smither ( 1973 WB ; 1950 XQ ; 1952 OE ; 1968 WB ; 1978 WA ) is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 29 November 1973 by Eleanor F. Helin at Palomar Observatory was discovered.
designation
The asteroid was named after John C. Smith by Eleanor Helin, the discoverer, and Eugene Shoemaker (1927–1997) in recognition of his contribution to the Planet-Crossing Asteroid Survey . He was known as "Smither" as a student at the California Institute of Technology .
