(2211) Hanuman is an asteroid of the main outer belt discovered on November 26, 1951 by the US astronomer Leland E. Cunningham at the Mount Wilson Observatory ( IAU code 672) in California .
The asteroid was named after the Hindu deity Hanuman , who has the shape of a monkey and is the most faithful servant of Rama .
The asteroid belongs to the Ursula family, a several billion year old asteroid family named after the asteroid (375) Ursula .
