(42295) Teresateng is a major inner belt asteroid discovered on October 23, 2001 by the Canadian astronomer of Hong Kong origin William Kwong Yu Yeung at the Desert Beaver Observatory near Eloy , Arizona ( IAU code 919). Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already occurred in February 1999 with the provisional designation 1999 CE 59 at the Lincoln Laboratory Experimental Test System in Socorro , New Mexico .
Mean solar distance ( major semi-axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of the asteroid are similar to the orbital data of the members of the Flora family, a large group of asteroids named after (8) Flora . Asteroids of this family move in a 4: 9 orbital resonance with the planet Mars around the sun . The group is also called the Ariadne family, after the asteroid (43) Ariadne .
(42295) Teresateng was named on June 7, 2009 after the Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng (1953-1995).
