(5404) Uemura is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 15 March 1991 by the Japanese astronomer Kin EnDate and Kazuro Watanabe at Kitami Observatory ( observatory code 400) in Kitami in Hokkaido was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the Japanese adventurer and mountaineer Naomi Uemura (1941-1984), who had conquered five of the Seven Summits by 1970 , before he had a fatal accident in February 1984 during a solo winter ascent of Mount McKinley .
