(7644) Cslewis is an asteroid of the central main belt discovered on November 4, 1988 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near the town of Český Krumlov in Bohemia .
It was named on March 9, 2001 after the Irish writer and literary scholar C. S. Lewis (1898–1963), who is best known in the Anglo-American region for his children's book series The Chronicles of Narnia .
The celestial body belongs to the Maria family, a group of asteroids named after (170) Maria .
