(8423) Macao is an asteroid of the outer main belt , which on 11 January 1997, under the Beijing Schmidt CCD Asteroid Program at the 60/90-cm Schmidt telescope of the Xinglong Station ( IAU code 327) in the province of Hebei was discovered .

The asteroid was named after the Macau Peninsula on October 5, 1998 .
